Croix's First Word

Croix had his 15 mo. check up last week.  One of the things the Dr. and I discussed was Croix's speech, or lack there of.  He doesn't have any words that he uses.  He doesn't really even use Mama and Dada appropriately.  He jabbers all the time.  He can point to something in a book, when we ask where's the baby, he will point to the baby.  He uses sign language.  He listens to and understands what I'm saying.  I've thought maybe the reason he is not talking could be his hearing, so I whispered his name, he turned and looked at me.  I kind of think he's just not interested in talking yet.  The Dr. would like us to have his hearing tested and have a speech evlauation done.  She said it's not a major concern at this point, but if there is something wrong the earlier we can catch it the better.  If there are problems that are not caught by the age of 2 it can affect their speach for the rest of their life.  So we'll get some tests done.

This morning on the way to church Brent says to me
"I know what will get him talking for sure."
"What is that?" I asked.
"All we have to do is start cussing in front of him"
I laughed.  Then to prove Brent wrong I said.
"Oh shit"
Croix immediately said  "Oh shit"

That's right.  My child's first word was shit.  We both laughed so hard we couldn't breathe.  I had tears running down my cheeks!  It was like something out of the movies!  Poor Croix!  What an awful first word.  Try as we may, he hasn't said another word, and I'm not about to say that word again in front of him again!

So Behind!

I'm so behind on blogging!  I had gotten behind and then my computer crashed (.I know are we all tired of hearing how my computer crashed?) so then I got even more behind.  My amazing friend pulled through and was amazing once again.  We we spared the cost of a new computer.  Which is such a blessing because that is not in our budget right now.  He had to wipe the hard drive though.  So it's like we're starting over with a new computer.  Thankfully it had crashed before so he had most of our stuff backed up on his server (he builds motherboards or something technical like that) so we didn't really loose anything.  Well we lost somethings, but not much, and nothing super important.  See it was such a blessing our computer crashed before!
I want to get all caught up, but I can't find the disk to reinstall our card reader, so I can't upload the pictures.  Sigh.  Hopefully I find it soon!  Lots of cute things to share!

Already?!?!?!?

The other day we went to a near by outdoor mall.  The weather was perfect, Croix loved the play area, it was great.  There was a moment that really made us laugh.  We were walking along.  Croix was holding Brent's hand.  I was pushing the ignored and unused stroller, Croix's too big now, wants to walk himself!  We walked past Victoria's Secret, Croix stopped, stared, backed up and smiled.  We laughed and said what a boy.  This morning Croix was in his high chair eating some bananas and cereal.  We were watching the morning news.  The weather guy was on location at a high school pep rally for the football game that evening.  The camera person panned over to the cheerleaders, jumping and cheering.  Croix claps, and smiles and signs more!
Oh dear!
My sweet little baby boy,  you are only one year old!  You are way too little to notice, or appreciate the opposite sex!  Stop it!
I hope this is not a foreboding sign of teenage years will be like!

Take a Stand

I don't normally post about this sort of thing but this is just too much.  Amazon has/had a book for sale entitle

The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover's Code of Conduct

Just the title alone is enough enrage me.  Amazon knew about the book, they wrote a statement saying

"Amazon believes it is censorship not to sell certain books simply because we or others believe their message is objectionable"

Amazon defended their choice to sale the book until THIS facebook group was started to boycott Amazon.  After that the media got wind of the story and then the book was pulled.  Only once Amazon was worried it would be detrimental to their sales did the pull the book.  Since pulling the book there has been no statement of apology.  It brings to my mind this quote

"All that is needed for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing."
Edmund Burke

I'm not going to sit back and do nothing!  Amazon will be hearing from me!  This is just going to far.  We need to do all we can to uphold the fading moral values of America and Christianity!

If you would like to contact Amazon as well here is their contact info:

Monetize

I clicked on the monetize tab, I followed the instructions, I now have an add on my blog.  Let me know if you hate it.  I'll still have to see how I feel about it.

Must Be In The Water

Everyone is pregnant again.  Well actually if I'm honest the number of people pregnant has probably never changed, what has changed is my desire to be pregnant, therefore my awareness of all the pregnant women.  Amazing how that happens!  It's also amazing to me how easily I went from not wanting to be pregnant yet, to I would be ok with getting pregnant, to wanting to be pregnant.  Thankfully I'm still just at wanting to be pregnant.  Hopefully I'll never get to the longing to be pregnant.  Hopefully we'll have no problems conceiving and we'll be able to add to our family here at some point in the near future.  It does make me nervous to know that my friends that are getting pregnant now are going to have babies when I would be at that longing stage (if it takes a while again).  When I think about that I realize there is nothing I can do about that, so I turn it over to my Savior.  I give him my fear.

I was very excited by my natural pursuits for hormonal balence.  The day after my second foot zoning session I start a period, a very normal period!  I breathed a sigh of relief, said a prayer of gratitude, and hoped this was a promising sign for the future.  The high hopes didn't last too long.  I started spotting again.  I was tempted to get down about it, to be discouraged then I choose not to.  I choose to have hope and faith.  I choose to "come what may and love it"!  I did not let myself to got  a place of fear, for that is not a healthy or productive place, it does no good.  So I will continue to be faithful.  I will continue to be prayerful.  I will continue to be a wonderful mother to Croix.  I will continue to bask in the ever present love from Brent.  I will continue to love my life!

Happy Halloween

Brent went as Mr. Money Bag (the Monopoly guy) Croix was the cutest monster EVER!  I was "stood up for prom" (So sad!)
Croix's signing more here.  He wanted to go run around more.  Love it!  Love him!
Also do you love the stay off the stage sign behind us!  Hee Hee!

Look at my mean teeth!

Roar!

Isnt' my dress pretty!  It's the bridesmaid dress I wore in my brother & sister in laws wedding.
I was excited for a good excuse to wear it again!

Croix was a hoot!  He had a blast!  He had the cutest little waddle!  Here's a little video of it:

Our ward did trick or treating at the church building.  They did a chili cook off that was fantastic!  Then there was trick or treating to the different class rooms which were decorated wonderfully!  I was amazed that Croix didn't get scared at all!  There were even rooms with talking skeletons and he did fine.  He just looked at everything, took it in.  He did get a little nervous a couple times when he was walking by himself, but as long as I was holding him he was fine.  He also LOVED his costume! Even after Halloween he wanted to put it on and play.  We were mean parents, no candy.  We didn't even bring his Jack-O-Lantern.  I figured he's too young for that much candy, neither Brent nor I need to be eating all that candy so we left it for others.  It was such a fun Halloween!  I can't wait till next year!  I already have our costumes all figured out!

Book Club

I am going to start a book club at the beginning of next year.  I figured during the holidays when everyone is so busy is not the best time to start, so January will be the first meeting.  We will read one book a month and then meet to discuss the book, there may or may not be snacks involved as well.   The majority of the books will probably not be church books, but we can throw a few of them in here and there.  This is not a church sponsored book club!!!!  This is just me wanting to do a book club.  If you are interested please let me know.  Also please send any recommendations for books you would like to read in our club.  I'll put it together and make a schedule for the year.

Fast From The World

I was asked to teach a lesson in Young Womens about technology.  I was excited to teach about this subject.  It was fun to "create" a lesson, since this was not a normal lesson out of the Young Women lesson manual.  I scoured talks, quotes, stories and scriptures to pieced together this Lesson.  There was inspiration along the way. The spirit helped me to recall things from seminary, young women lessons, institute lessons, scriptures.  I felt strongly about including certain things.  I felt very strongly about issuing them a challenge.  It was inspired by Fast From The World Week (the non LDS kids at my high school called it crazy Mormon week) when I was in seminary.  Every year we would fast from the world the week before General Conference.  It was also missionary week so we had a lot of rules to live by during that week.

They were:
Read your scriptures 30 min every day.
Write in your journal daily.
Refer to each other and brother and sister.
Stay arms length away from the opposite sex.
No TV, movies or radio.
No music other then church or classical.
Attend all 4 (5 for men) session of general conference.
Wear Sunday dress the entire week.
Carry your scriptures with you at all times.

It really was a challenge.  It also provided the opportunity for some spiritual experiences!  I still have very fond and special memories from the many fasts from the world that I did.  What a wonderful way it was to bring the spirit into my life.

I felt it would be wonderful to challenge the girls to fast from the world.  At first I thought about a whole week, like I did in seminary.  I did not feel that was realistic to expect.  So then I decided on just 24 hours, as you would fasting from food.  Here is how I modified the challenge for them:

Fast From The World
Read scriptures for 30 min.                                                     No music except for church or classical
Wear Sunday dress all day on Sunday                                   No TV movies radio or iPods
No internet except for academic or religious purposes          Attend all 3 hours of church
No texting

It was weird to think that when I accepted this same challenge there was no texting, no iPods, internet was still so new that it wasn't an issue. Just 10 years and so much has changed.

I'm going to start my fast from the world this evening. I really hope my young women do the same. I know they can have a spiritual experience if they accept the challenge with an open heart desiring the spirit.

If you would like to join us in our fast from the world this fast Sunday, please do! Then let me know your experiences!
